Imran Khan’s sisters and KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi were once again denied a meeting with the PTI founder imprisoned in Adiala jail. The PTI also condemned the banning of a party from Gilgit Baltistan allied with it for the 2026 elections.

ISLAMABAD: The sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi were again not allowed to meet him at Adiala jail on Tuesday, sparking fresh criticism from the party and a warning of a sit-in.

Speaking to reporters, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan said the refusal to allow the meeting amounted to contempt of court. She said the family was still being prevented from seeing the former prime minister despite what she described as clear instructions from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that family meetings should be held every Tuesday and Thursday.

Asked about the possibility of a sit-in protest, Aleema Khan said that during their previous visit, a police officer asked them to leave and assured them that the same request would not be made the next time she came to the prison.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said he came to Rawalpindi at the invitation of Aleema Khan and appealed to parliamentarians across the country to express solidarity with Imran Khan’s sisters.

PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja said the last meeting with Imran Khan took place in December and involved one of his sisters, terming the situation unacceptable. He added that consultations within the party were continuing.

PTI criticizes banning of Gilgit Baltistan party

Meanwhile, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram slammed the federal government and the Gilgit Baltistan Election Commission for banning the Gilgit Baltistan Democratic Party, which had entered into an electoral alliance with the PTI for the 2026 elections.

In a statement, Akram said the move was aimed at undermining democracy in Gilgit Baltistan ahead of the upcoming general elections. He termed the decision as political victimization and said it was aimed at a platform that sought to represent the people of the region through its alliance with the PTI.

This is not about governance; it is a pure and simple political vendetta and a systematic murder of democracy

He further said the action violated constitutional and democratic principles, arguing that the Constitution guarantees political parties the right to organize, contest elections and reach voters.

Any attempt to suppress a party based solely on its ideological or political affiliation constitutes a criminal negation of democratic principles and a betrayal of the constitutional responsibilities of the State.

Akram also called for the ban to be lifted immediately and unconditionally. He said the electoral process must be completely transparent and all political parties must be given equal opportunities and a level playing field. He added that the Electoral Commission must discharge its constitutional responsibilities impartially and without pressure from the Federal Government.
