Erdogan lands in Astana for Kazakhstan summit, Turkish states meeting

P.Resident Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana on Wednesday to attend two high-level diplomatic engagements: the Turkey-Kazakhstan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting and an informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States.

Erdogan’s plane landed at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport, where it was escorted by fighter jets during its approach. Two helicopters flying over the airport carried the flags of Turkey and Kazakhstan as part of the reception ceremony.

A warm welcome in the hall of honor

Erdogan, accompanied by his wife Emine Erdogan, was received in the airport’s VIP lounge by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Turkish Ambassador to Astana Mustafa Kapucu and other officials.

Children waving Turkish and Kazakh flags greeted the two leaders as they made their way to the lounge, where a children’s choir performed the traditional Kazakh song “Dombra.”

The children welcomed Erdogan with the phrase “Welcome to the ancestral homeland”, to which the Turkish president replied: “We are happy to be here.” Erdogan then posed for photos with the children before holding a brief standing conversation with Tokayev and leaving the airport. A Turkish delegation accompanied Erdogan during his visit.

A partnership rooted in Turkish kinship

The bilateral council meeting represents one of the most structured formats in Turkey-Kazakhstan relations, bringing together senior officials from both governments to coordinate economic, political and security issues.

The two countries share linguistic and cultural ties as Turkic nations, a bond that has supported close diplomatic engagement in recent decades.

The informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which brings together Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as well as observer members, serves as a forum for political consultation and integration among Turkic-speaking nations.
