“If KP government is accused of terrorism, why not Balochistan? – Newspaper

• PTI MPs question the Centre’s ‘double standards’ in the face of deteriorating law and order in the two provinces. • Tariq Fazal Chaudhry says issues are ‘provincial matters’, offers to hold meeting with CM Bugti

ISLAMABAD: Opposition PTI lawmakers on Friday questioned why terrorism and lawlessness continued to afflict Balochistan, and denounced what they called the government’s “double standards” when it comes to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking in the House, PTI MP Adil Khan Bazai pointed out that terrorism was widespread in Balochistan despite extraordinary security measures and additional powers given to law enforcement agencies to control it.

“Mr. President, the question is where are we going? We are going nowhere except on the path to self-destruction,” he added.

As he continued to describe the state of depression in the province, some of his remarks were erased by Vice President Ghulam Mustafa, who was presiding over the session.

Mr. Bazai was apparently responding to statements made by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, who had accused the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of indirectly supporting terrorists during the assembly a few days ago.

“If terrorism in KP is due to the provincial setup there, God forbid… [then] what about Balochistan? » asked the PTI MP from the Treasury benches.

“We [PTI] we don’t have a government in Balochistan. Are you going to blame the party leaders of this government? he added.

Mr. Bazai went on to say that the people of Punjab were facing the impact of inflation and suffering from the high cost of living. He added that some people were also affected by street crime.

“But is this all because of Imran Khan or the PTI? » he questioned.

“The situation is more serious than you think. My driver, my guard and my staff assistant were arrested without any charge or reason,” Bazai said, demanding an explanation from the relevant minister.

Speaking after him, PTI MP Khushal Khan Kakar also criticized the Center over rising terrorism in Balochistan.

He recounted an incident involving a scuffle between a local cleric and law enforcement, asking: “Can you even count the number of checkpoints in and around Quetta?

“Provincial subjects”

However, responding to questions raised by PTI MPs, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the issues raised in the House were provincial matters.

“I will arrange a meeting between you and Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti. If he is here [in Islamabad]I will also accompany you to resolve local affairs,” added Mr. Chaudhry.

However, his statement gave rise to cross-talk in the House and PTI lawmakers pointed out that the Coast Guard and the Frontier Corps were federal entities.

The minister said the FC was only deployed in the province to help maintain law and order and denied that it had been given powers by the customs department.

“This is a false narrative, just like the incident involving the coast guard,” the minister said, adding: “The fact is that the terrorist group BLA [Balochistan Liberation Army] attacked the coast guard checkpoint, also causing some casualties.

Before he could finish, some PTI members stood up from their seats, calling the minister a liar.

Despite warnings from the Vice President on both sides to stop cross-talk, the war of words between Mr. Chaudhry and PTI MPs, including Mr. Kakar and Mr. Bazai, began to intensify.

However, Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, along with PTI leaders Advocate Gohar Ali Khan and Asad Qaiser, asked Mr. Chaudhry to sit down. They could be heard saying, “Sit down, they’re stopping.”

Furthermore, Friday’s session of the AN turned out to be dull, with most members of the Treasury and the opposition remaining absent.

The session was delayed for more than an hour due to lack of quorum.

It began around noon and was adjourned within an hour until Monday evening.
