Israel continues attacks and illegal settlement activities despite ceasefire: Turkish president

Even as the Muslim world seeks an atmosphere of peace, Israel continues its “occupation, destruction, massacres and illegal settlement activities” from Gaza to the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Lebanon, ignoring existing ceasefires, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.
In a message marking the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, Erdogan thanked God for allowing Turkey to reach another holiday in good health and peace of mind, but also lamented how the negative effects of the war in Iran “triggered by Israel’s provocations” are being felt in multiple international sectors, including energy, agriculture, trade, transportation, economy and security.
“At a time when our region is grappling with crises, Turkey stands out as an island of stability with its economy, competent personnel and strengthened domestic front,” Erdogan said in the message, published on the presidential website as well as in video form on the American social network X.
He also said that Turkey is now reaping the benefits of policies carried out over the past 23 years, under the leadership of the Justice and Development (AK) party, “despite criticism and obstruction”, particularly its impressive progress in the defense industry.
“With defense and aerospace exports growing from $248 million to over $10 billion, Turkey is writing a rare success story in the world,” he added.
Erdogan said Turkey will become “one of the shining stars of the new era” once instability in the region subsides.
“We are doing everything necessary for this,” he said, referring to Turkey’s constant efforts, including offers of mediation, to promote peace in the region.
