Narendra Modi expected to visit Perth as part of his upcoming visit to Australia
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Perth later this year as part of an upcoming visit to Australia.
Anthony Albanese hailed the upcoming visit to Parliament on Tuesday as an opportunity for the two nations to build on their relationship based on “friendship, respect and mutual benefit”.
“I will soon have the privilege of welcoming Prime Minister Modi here,” Mr Albanese said.

“Like last time, Prime Minister Modi’s visit will be made extraordinary by many of the one million Indian-Australian communities.”
The Prime Minister called India “one of Australia’s great international connections” and gave a nod to the “international language of cricket” shared by both nations.
Mr Modi’s trip is part of a multinational tour, also with Indonesia and New Zealand on the programme, as well as other Australian engagements in Melbourne and Sydney.
This will be the Indian leader’s second visit to Australia after a tour in May 2023.
At the time, Mr Modi was backed by 20,000 people at a rally in the Olympic Park arena, at which Mr Albanese also spoke.
The announcement comes after Foreign Minister Penny Wong met her Indian counterpart in New Delhi on Tuesday, alongside Quad partners the United States and Japan.
Senator Wong spoke about the importance of this relationship and announced a series of collaborative initiatives in the region.
She said the group agreed to strengthen maritime security, work together to secure regional energy supplies, continue work on critical minerals and build partnerships on Pacific port infrastructure programs.
“We recognize our obligation, or our responsibilities, to provide viable choices, particularly as the strategic situation in our region deteriorates,” said Senator Wong.
“The region is facing acute economic stress. We know the world is more unpredictable.
“We know that volatility is increasing and we know the consequences for our region of the Iranian closure of the Strait of Hormuz and what it means for our energy security.
“We recognize the importance of maintaining the primary freedom of aviation and our opposition to any toll proposals.”
Senator Wong and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Quad partners had agreed on specific plans to work directly with Fiji to advance and improve that country’s ports infrastructure.
“Today we are also announcing the Quad’s strongest ever commitment to the Future Ports Partnership, where we are launching a pilot project for port infrastructure in Fiji,” Senator Wong said.
Mr. Rubio also highlighted shared work to connect each Quad nation’s individual maritime surveillance capabilities to improve their shared information.
