JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Daily Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Ahmad Ali stressed that there is nothing wrong with the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) traveling to Indonesia.
Ali admitted to being surprised by those who questioned Jokowi’s influence over the PSI in 2029, given his non-presidential status.
“Pak Jokowi never thought or was arrogant, nor said that he still had influence in society,” Ali said when contacted. Kompas.comThursday (5/28/2026).
“What is the problem for them if Pak Jokowi circulates? Whether or not there are benefits for the PSI, why is this a matter of debate?” he continued.

According to Ali, what went wrong was when Jokowi asked his son, the vice president, for money for the trip. Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Ali stressed that when Jokowi wanted to travel to Indonesia, it was only because of his love for the people.
“Or is it wrong for Pak Jokowi to circulate? Or is there a rule he’s breaking? Ethics or morality? What’s wrong is that he then uses the APBN funds to ask Gibran for money for the trip.
“But he still wants to succeed…Whether it is using his personal money or using a joint venture, regardless of where the source comes from, it is his right that we must also respect,” he continued.

Therefore, Ali said he never thought about whether Jokowi could benefit from PSI or not.
Furthermore, at the PSI national working meeting in January 2026, Jokowi said that he was ready to do everything to travel across Indonesia for the PSI.
“Of course, anyone who wants to come and help increase the PSI, we will definitely accept it with pleasure. Whether the help has an impact or not, that is also not a reason for us to refuse, ‘oh, don’t help us, because it will not be profitable for us’. That is also not the case,” Ali added.

Previously, Esa Unggul University Political Communications Observer M Jamiluddin Ritonga assessed that the plans of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) traveling to Indonesia again will not easily produce a big political impact like when Jokowi was still head of state.
According to Jamiluddin, Jokowi’s current political position is different from when he was still president, as the level of public trust is considered to have declined.
Jamiluddin also believes that Jokowi is currently not as great as when he was president.
“Jokowi is currently no longer a patron, but rather a controversial figure,” said Jamiluddin, in his statement, Wednesday (27/5/2026).
