PM Modi congratulates Indian wrestlers on historic performance at Asian U23 Championships
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Indian wrestlers for their stellar performance at the Asian U23 Wrestling Championships 2026 held in Da Nang, Vietnam, where India recorded its best medal haul in the history of the tournament.

“The men’s freestyle wrestling team won 9 medals, including 4 gold, thereby registering India’s highest ever medal tally in the history of the U23 Asian Championships. The women’s wrestling contingent won 10 medals, including 6 gold. The Greco-Roman team also recorded its highest ever medal tally with 8 medals. Congratulations to our wrestlers. Best wishes for the endeavours ahead,” he added.
Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the Indian wrestlers for their feat.

India concluded its campaign with a remarkable total of 27 medals – 11 gold, seven silver and nine bronze – in the freestyle, women’s wrestling and Greco-Roman categories.
The Indian men’s freestyle wrestling team emerged champions, finishing ahead of powerhouses Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in the overall standings.
The freestyle wrestling team won nine medals, including four gold, three silver and two bronze. The gold medals were won by Akshay T Dhere (57 kg), Vicky (97 kg), Kumar Mohit (65 kg) and Chandermohan (79 kg).
Deepak Rathi (61 kg), Punit Kumar (92 kg) and Lacky (125 kg) won silver medals, while Deepak Berwal (74 kg) and Mor Sachin (82 kg) added bronze medals to India’s tally.
Indian women wrestlers also put up a dominant performance, winning 10 medals, including six gold medals.
Muskan (53 kg), Tapasya (57 kg), Bhagyashree (62 kg), Pulkit (67 kg), Mansi (68 kg) and Kajal (76 kg) bagged gold medals in their respective categories.
Neha (59 kg) and Sweety (50 kg) won silver medals, while Amruta (72 kg) and Ahilya (55 kg) finished with bronze medals.
In the Greco-Roman category, India won eight medals. Sumit won gold in the 63kg division, while Suraj (60kg) and Sagar Singh (67kg) won silver medals.
Neeraj Patel (55 kg), Sachin (77 kg), Rohit Bura (87 kg), Rohit (97 kg) and Hardeep (130 kg) added bronze medals to complete India’s historic campaign.
