The Pakistani government is denying legal and constitutional rights to incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife and depriving the couple of proper health care, its party unit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said.

Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since August 2023 in several cases while his wife, Bushra Bibi, was initially under house arrest and then sent to jail in May 2024.

Shafi Jan, PTI leader and also a minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, also said in a press conference in Peshawar on Friday (June 5, 2026), that Khan and his wife were also not allowed to contact any of their relatives and party members.

Mr Jan said Khan had been suffering from an eye disease for four months and his eyesight had not yet fully recovered.

The couple were taken to hospital late Thursday night (June 4, 2026) for medical treatment in violation of prison rules, he said at the press conference organized by Insaf Doctors Forum, the official representative body of medical professionals aligned with Khan’s party, PTI.

Claiming that the medical examination and treatment process lasted around three hours, Mr Jan said: “However, no authenticated medical report or details regarding their condition were shared with the group or family members. »

The PTI leader demanded that the couple be given access to their personal doctors and requested their immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment.

Referring to court directives regarding meetings with the party founder, the minister alleged that continued restrictions led to violation of court orders and could amount to contempt of court.
