The PDIP claims that its executives were persuaded to join the PSI, Deddy: material aid offered
PDIP DPP Chairman Deddy Sitorus admitted that he continues to monitor the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) movement, which he said has persuaded his party cadres to join. However, he stressed that he was not worried.
Deddy declared that his party was attentive to the various maneuvers of the ISP in the regions, starting with the approaches to parliamentarians, regional leaders, administrators and party executives.
Deddy conveyed this while responding to PSI’s plan that would have placed 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as chairman of the party’s advisory council.
“It is true that he was not in PSI from the beginning, his son (Kaesang Pangarep) was already general president and before that he made PSI grow by recruiting people from the government and state-owned enterprises,” Deddy said in his statement on Tuesday (16/6).
According to Deddy, PDIP’s relationship with Jokowi has ended since Jokowi was dismissed from his party membership.
“For us, the matter with Jokowi is over, he has been fired from the party. So whatever party jacket he wants to wear is Jokowi’s business,” he said.
Regarding the possibility of Jokowi joining the PSI structure and its impact on the political strength of the PDIP, Deddy believes that it is still too early to conclude.
“Will this have an impact on the PDI Perjuangan? We will see because the elections are still far away. We continue to monitor the movements of those who continually try to persuade PDIP cadres to join PSI in various regions, including council members, regional heads, administrators and party cadres,” he said.
Deddy even admitted to having received information regarding an offer of material assistance to a number of executives invited to join the PSI. However, he admitted that he could not confirm the veracity of this information.
“According to the information I have heard, on average, they are even offered quite significant material assistance. I don’t know the truth. Frankly, we are not afraid,” Deddy said.
He believed that the PSI faced a tough electoral test in the 2024 elections, as it failed to qualify for Parliament.
“The last elections, when they were at the peak of power with the only government network and the APH and the only social assistance budget, they still failed to enter Parliament,” he said.
Deddy also believes that the PSI will face not only the PDIP, but also other parties whose cadres would be the target of political approaches.
“Remember that other parties will also face this because of their attempts to hijack cadres from other parties,” Deddy said.
“There are many visible symptoms of this, especially in the bases of Nasdem, Democrat and PAN. So they are not only dealing with the PDIP, but also with other parties whose cadres were recruited to instantly relieve the PSI,” he concluded.
Previously, Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) DPP Bestari Barus said that the 7th President Joko Widodo was already in the PSI. However, Jokowi’s official position within the party will be announced directly by PSI General Chairman Kaesang Pangarep at a time deemed appropriate.
This was stated by Bestari when answering Jokowi’s question who would be chairman of the PSI advisory board.
“So what is Mr. Jokowi’s position, Mr. Jokowi is already at PSI. Later, regarding when his position will be announced, I also conveyed it to several places. It will be announced immediately by Mas Kaesang, as general president, that is,” Bestari said on Thursday (28/5).
He said that although Jokowi’s official position had not yet been announced, the PSI had now positioned Jokowi as a boss or role model in the party’s movement.
“However, we also placed Pak Jokowi as a patron. Our role model in our work at PSI,” he said.
According to him, the PSI is just waiting for the right momentum to announce it to the public.
