Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa arrested and hospitalized

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The case of the alleged fake diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), entered a new phase after the two suspects, namely Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma or Doctor Tifa, were arrested on Friday (19/6/2026) morning.

After being restrained, they were both immediately taken to the Polda Metro Jaya. Following her arrest, Tifa, who was supposed to take a thesis exam at the University of Indonesia, was forced to take the exam online.

Lawyers for both men protested the police actions. They believe that the police acted in a repressive manner because they did not send a summons in advance.

So far, Roy and Tifa have not been arrested. Both are still being treated at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital after undergoing medical examinations.

Timeline of Roy and Tifa’s arrest

Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa was arrested at their respective residences Friday morning.

Roy’s lawyer, Ahmad Khozinudin, said that at that time, Roy had just rested after returning from a meeting in Bandung, West Java.

He said they separated around 01:30 WIB. Roy then went directly to his home in Bintaro, southern Tangerang, arriving around 03:00 WIB.

“So practically it was just a few hours of rest,” Khozinudin said at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Friday.

Shortly after, a group of men claiming to be investigators from Polda Metro Jaya entered the private room of Roy and his wife, Ririen.

Ririen then tried to explain to investigators that the arrest process had to be done with the assistance of Roy’s lawyer.

However, the request was rejected. Ririen then tried to prepare a number of items Roy thought he would need if he was detained, including clothing and medicine. However, the police refused again and wanted to take Roy away immediately.

“But all that is put aside. There is no humanism, there is no police who consider that suspicious people are human beings who deserve to be respected for their humanity,” he added.

Investigators then gave Ririen an arrest warrant and asked him to sign the document. However, Ririen refused and the letter was withdrawn by investigators.

According to Roy’s other lawyer, Refly Harun, Roy also had no time to prepare anything. In fact, he didn’t have a chance to take a shower or change clothes.

“He didn’t have time to do anything, fortunately he still had time to pray at dawn. So he didn’t shower, he didn’t dress properly, and then he was forced to be taken to the Polda metro,” Refly said.

Roy also reportedly surrendered when he was finally arrested by investigators without a fight.

“Our client did not want to make a fuss, he finally went to the Polda metro station without signing an arrest warrant,” he said.

Meanwhile, Doctor Tifa should have taken the final exam of her master’s program at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia at 08:00 WIB.

However, about an hour earlier, a number of police officers came to his apartment in the Tebet area of ​​South Jakarta to forcibly arrest him.

Unlike Roy, Tifa still had time to bring a printed copy of her thesis as well as a laptop to take the online exam.

“I was going to go to the UI campus, but because I was arrested, I went to the trial at the regional police,” said Doctor Tifa’s lawyer, Ramdansyah Bakir, when confirmed in a short message on Friday.

Called repressive

Roy and Tifa’s lawyers regret this arrest. Indeed, both would have still fulfilled their mandatory reporting obligations every week since they were designated suspects in November 2025.

The files in this case were declared complete or P21 by the DKI Jakarta Higher Prosecutor’s Office in June 2026. However, the lawyer claims that he has not received any official notification, neither from the police nor the prosecutor’s office.

They admitted to having prepared a mechanism if Roy and Tifa were summoned again to undergo a preparatory examination for Phase II or hand over the suspect and evidence to the prosecutor’s office.
