Jokowi encourages PSI to support Prabowo-Gibran for two periods, AHY: 2029 is still far away

Jakarta – Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono or AHY, opened his voice regarding the statement of the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who asked PSI to support Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms. He believes that this is going too quickly, because the electoral contest of 2029 is still far away.

“Let’s both realize that it’s still 2026, it’s still a long way to 2029,” AHY told reporters at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Central Jakarta, quoted Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

On the other hand, AHY said that currently Democrats are focused on domestic affairs. He said Democrats want to maintain citizens’ purchasing power and create job opportunities.

Previously, DPP PSI Chairman Bestari Barus expressed Jokowi’s leadership to his party and PSI supporters.

The objective was to keep the Prabowo-Gibran government. According to him, Jokowi also asked PSI to keep Prabowo-Gibran for two terms.
