China and Bangladesh announce building a community with a shared future in a new era

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who is on an official visit to China.

The two leaders jointly announced their decision to build a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era, elevating bilateral relations to a higher level.

Xi noted that China has always attached great importance to the development of China-Bangladesh relations and remains steadfast in the policy of good neighborliness and friendship towards all people of Bangladesh.

No matter how the world develops, China will not waver in its commitment to the overall direction of China-Bangladesh friendly relations and will always be a good friend, a good neighbor and a good and trustworthy partner of Bangladesh, he said.

“This year marks the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Looking back at its history, the CPC has united and led the Chinese people out of poverty and weakness and opened the path of Chinese modernization. Strength lies in independence and autonomy, and firmly holding the future of national development and progress in our hands,” Xi said.

He said China supports Bangladesh in defending its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and rejecting foreign interference.

China supports the new Bangladesh government in its governance efforts and is ready to work with Bangladesh to carry out high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, he said.

China is willing to make solid plans for orderly cooperation in priority areas with Bangladesh and explore the potential for cooperation in the fields of green and low-carbon development, digital economy, information technology and artificial intelligence, he said.

Xi said China is ready to conduct exchanges in health, culture and education at subnational levels, and advance the development of the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor for greater regional connectivity.

China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Bangladesh within multilateral frameworks, including the UN, to jointly promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and better uphold the legitimate rights and common interests of the two countries as well as the interests of the Global South, he said.

Extending congratulations on the 105th founding anniversary of the CPC, Rahman said China is a valued and reliable partner of Bangladesh, and Chinese modernization is an example from which Bangladesh can learn.

Bangladesh hopes to strengthen bilateral exchanges between political parties, advance Belt and Road cooperation, and strengthen cooperation and exchanges in economics and trade, connectivity, agriculture, technology, green energy, education and health to help Bangladesh modernize, Rahman said.

Bangladesh firmly adheres to the one-China principle, recognizes Taiwan as an integral part of Chinese territory, opposes any form of “Taiwan independence” and firmly supports the authority of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, he said.

The vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi are important for maintaining world peace, development and international fairness and justice, he said, adding that Bangladesh fully supports them.

Rahman said Bangladesh is ready to strengthen coordination and collaboration with China on international and regional affairs and uphold the victory results of World War II and the UN-centered international order.
