PTI founder Imran and his wife challenge ‘solitary confinement’ at IHC

Fresh petitions have been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the solitary confinement of PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.

The petitions were filed by PTI founder Aleema Khan’s sister, PTI senators and Bushra’s daughter Bibi through lawyer Salman Safdar, citing violations of fundamental constitutional rights and highlighting their concerns over their prolonged isolation and restricted access to their families and doctors.

Superintendent of Adiala Prison, IG Prisons Punjab, Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have been named as respondents.

According to the petitions, the issue came to light during a meeting between the PTI founder and his lawyer on April 8, when it was revealed that the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi were being kept in solitary confinement.

The petitions further stated that the PTI founder was not allowed to meet any of his family members or party leaders for the past six months.

They argued that no court decision or legal order authorized his placement in solitary confinement, calling the alleged treatment inhumane and against the law.

The petitions also claimed that the PTI founder had informed his lawyer that around 85 percent of the vision in one of his eyes had been affected.

The petitions argued that solitary confinement was one of the harshest forms of punishment and was never included in his sentence.

The petitioners have requested the Islamabad High Court to declare the alleged solitary confinement of the PTI founder illegal and issue appropriate directions to ensure that his rights are protected under law.
