JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – DPP PDI-P Chairman Komarudin Watubun admitted that he had no problem with the procession of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stepping on the head of a buffalo when receiving a traditional Lampung honorary title.
Komarudin stressed that the PDI-P did not need to respond to the controversy because it was on a buffalo head that we were walking and not on the bull’s head which is the symbol of his party.
“Oh, it doesn’t matter, we are not buffalo heads, we are bull heads. So it has nothing to do with it. The one who can explain the trampling case is Mr. Jokowi himself,” Komarudin said when meeting at the DPR Building of the Republic of Indonesia, Monday (29/6/2026).
According to Komarudin, Jokowi is no longer part of the PDI-P, so all the activities of his former cadres do not need to be commented on too much.
“But for me, Jokowi is the past of the PDI Perjuangan. So whatever his activities, I don’t want to answer because he is no longer part of the party,” he explained.
Komarudin also reiterated that the controversy had no connection with the PDI-P, as part of the traditional procession was a buffalo head.
“But when it comes to the head, step on the buffalo’s head, it’s a buffalo, not a cow, right? So there is no need for the PDI Perjuangan people to answer this question,” he said.
“Because it’s not a bull. Unless the bull’s head steps on it, we will definitely settle,” Komarudin concluded.

As previously reported, Jokowi’s procession of stepping on the head of a buffalo while receiving a traditional Lampung honorary title at Kedaton Keagungan Lampung, Saturday (6/27/2026), has become a topic of public conversation.
Photos and videos of the procession circulated widely on social media, raising various questions about the significance of the ritual in Lampung customs.
DPP Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Chairman Bestari Barus explained that the procession was part of a series of conferring traditional honorary titles on Jokowi.
“Why is the position like this? This is our cultural custom, part of the cultural custom. And it is impossible for Pak Jokowi to then do things that are outside of this cultural custom,” Bestari told reporters, Sunday (28/6/2026).

Meanwhile, traditional Lampung Pepadun figure Suttan Seghayo Dipuncak Nur Mawardi Harirama said the procession of placing the tip of the toes on the head of the buffalo is a traditional tradition of Lampung Pepadun and is not related to political interests.
According to Mawardi, the slaughter of buffaloes is a symbol of high status in the traditional Pepadun community.
