PM Modi to chair high-level meeting with union secretaries to discuss deregulation, ease of doing business reforms: report
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to convene a high-level meeting with Union secretaries on Tuesday to review the Centre’s deregulatory agenda and accelerate reforms, a statement said. Indian Express report.
The meeting, scheduled soon after the Prime Minister returns from his official visit to Seychelles, will bring together senior government officials for discussions on simplifying regulations, reducing compliance burdens and promoting the vision of Viksit Bharat.
According to the report, officials should also deliberate on measures to strengthen Atmanirbharta by improving policy implementation in ministries.
Each secretary has three minutes to brief the Prime Minister on their department’s progress in removing regulatory barriers and improving the ease of doing business and ease of living.
They were also asked to present new proposals and practical reforms that could further simplify government processes and improve public service delivery.
The review follows a similar meeting chaired by Modi in May, where Union ministers and senior officials were tasked with preparing sector-specific roadmaps to support India’s long-term development goals.
The Center has carried out an extensive deregulation program over the past year through dedicated expert groups.
The High Level Committee on Non-Financial Regulatory Reforms, chaired by Rajiv Gauba, former Cabinet Secretary and member of the NITI Aayog, reviewed existing licenses, authorizations, certifications and regulatory requirements with the aim of creating a more transparent, flexible and trust-based governance framework.
The committee submitted its recommendations to the relevant ministries for implementation.
Meanwhile, the task force on deregulation and compliance reduction, headed by KK Pathak, head of IAS, has been working to identify areas where compliance requirements can be simplified across departments.
The Cabinet Secretariat has also directed certain Union secretaries to work with states to promote similar regulatory reforms beyond the central government.
