Bail application filed for Imran Khan on medical grounds

A fresh bail application has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking release of PTI founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana II case on medical grounds.

His legal team says he suffers from a serious eye condition that cannot be properly treated in prison. The application was submitted through lawyers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry.

As well as the bail application, a miscellaneous application was also made seeking an early hearing into the suspension of sentence in the £190 million case.

The lawyers urged the court to take up the matter urgently, considering the deteriorating health condition of the PTI founder.

Medical reasons invoked

According to the application, the PTI founder is suffering from a serious eye disease. The disease was diagnosed by Dr Muhammad Arif of PIMS, the petition said. The doctor reportedly said that the right eye was seriously affected due to a blood clot. As a result, vision in the right eye was reduced to only 15%.

The request argues that appropriate treatment is not possible in prison. It further states that the PTI founder is 73 years old and should be released on bail on humanitarian and medical grounds.

Addressing the media at the Islamabad High Court, lawyer Safdar said an application had been filed for an early hearing following the diagnosis of the eye disease.

He demanded that the PTI founder’s cases be fixed for hearing next week. Safdar specifically called for the bail applications of PTI founder and Bushra Bibi to be scheduled on Monday.

Concerns over Bushra Bibi’s release on bail

Lawyer Salman Safdar also raised concerns about Bushra Bibi’s continued detention. He said she was a woman and had not been out on bail for more than a year.

The legal team urged the court to consider his bail plea alongside the PTI founder’s case.

With several cases pending, including the Toshakhana II case and the £190 million benchmark, the PTI founder’s legal team is pushing for redress in the courts.

The Islamabad High Court is now expected to decide whether to fix the cases for early hearing and consider the bail application on medical grounds.
