Indonesia to launch nationwide GovTech by October 2026
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Chairman of the Government Digital Transformation Acceleration Committee, announced that President Prabowo Subianto is expected to launch the government technology (GovTech) transformation nationwide in October 2026.
“The president will launch it nationwide in October,” Luhut said after attending a meeting on accelerating the digitalization of social assistance at the Ministry of Interior Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
According to Luhut, the GovTech pilot project is currently underway in 43 municipalities. The government aims to receive a report on the implementation of the project by the end of July 2026.
Luhut said Prabowo called for digital transformation to become one of the government’s priority programs. Not only will the system rely on the digitalization of government services, but it will also be supported by artificial intelligence (AI).
The committee chairman said the integration of AI-processed data had been implemented in eight ministries and institutions. At the same time, data security aspects are being strengthened with the support of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN).
He added that several regions, such as Surabaya, have demonstrated positive progress in implementing GovTech. According to Luhut, this gave the government the opportunity to expand the pilot project to other regions before rolling it out nationally.
According to Luhut, all software used in GovTech was developed by Indonesian talents. The government is also integrating around 27,000 applications currently spread across various ministries and institutions into a single digital services ecosystem.
“We do not purchase or import software, which increases costs. We simply integrate around 27,000 applications across all ministries and institutions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian said local governments support the accelerated implementation of GovTech.
According to Tito, the expansion of the pilot project was carried out after the trial in Banyuwangi demonstrated tangible benefits, including improving the targeting accuracy of social assistance distribution.
