Asad Qaiser dismisses rumors of KP CM change

PTI chief Asad Qaiser dismissed speculation of a change in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, saying Sohail Afridi would remain in power. He also spoke about Imran Khan’s cases, a draft Charter of Democracy and the party’s internal concerns.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has dismissed reports suggesting a change in leadership in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, saying Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will remain in office.

Qaiser said there was no substance to speculations about replacing the chief minister and termed such suggestions unrealistic. He said the change of chief minister was not a routine matter which could be decided lightly.

He said, “There is no truth in the news about a change of chief minister. InshaAllah, Sohail Afridi will remain the chief minister.”

Imran Khan affairs and party strategy

Qaiser also commented on the prosecution of PTI founder Imran Khan, calling it politically motivated and baseless. He said Imran had been imprisoned unjustly and described him as a prisoner of conscience facing difficulties for the country.

Referring to Imran’s political stance, Qaiser said he had always stood for the supremacy of the Constitution, law and Parliament.

Regarding efforts for Imran’s release, Qaiser said the party was evaluating all available options and indicated that the PTI was planning to launch a movement. He said the party was in contact with the courts and the public and would follow through on any decision it made.

He said: “We are going to launch a movement. We are in contact with the courts and the people. Whatever decision is taken, we will implement it.”

At the same time, Qaiser denied that any backdoor engagement, agreement or contact was underway with the government regarding Imran’s release, and said no formal negotiations were underway.

Charter of Democracy and electoral audit

Commenting on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent remarks in the National Assembly on a draft Charter of Democracy, Qaiser said the PTI supported the idea. According to him, the first point of such a charter should be the holding of new elections and the guarantee of parliamentary supremacy.

He said: “We completely agree that there should be a Charter of Democracy. »

Qaiser also said the country must have an election commission capable of conducting clean, transparent and fair elections.

On the prime minister’s proposal to audit the 2018 and 2024 elections, Qaiser said the PTI had accepted the offer and was ready for an independent review by a credible commission or other forum trusted by all parties.

Qaiser acknowledged that some party members were unhappy and said their concerns were real. He described them as friends and workers of the PTI, and said party president Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and provincial president Junaid Akbar had already met them.
