Lampung Regional Police foiled the smuggling of 5 kg of crystal methamphetamine in Bakauheni

Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) – The Narcotics Research Directorate of the Lampung Regional Police successfully thwarted an attempt to distribute 5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 202 ecstasy pills at Bakauheni Port, South Lampung Regency, Lampung.

“In this disclosure, the police arrested four people suspected of playing different roles in the interprovincial narcotics network,” said Lampung Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Pol. Yuni Iswandari in his statement at the Lampung Police Headquarters, Lampung, Saturday.

He said the four arrested had the initials HS, HR, HB and DK. Among the four, HB is known to be a member of Brimob. Meanwhile, DK is a soldier in the Indonesian Navy.

“The disclosure of this case is the result of rapid work and development carried out by the Lampung Police Narcotics Research Directorate in the region. Ban on seaports Bakauheni Port,” he said.

He said following the disclosure, police confiscated evidence in the form of three large packets of methamphetamine weighing approximately 5 kilograms, 202 ecstasy pills, a black backpack, four mobile phones and two vehicles used by the perpetrators.

According to Yuni, the economic value of the evidence obtained reached more than IDR 5 billion for crystal methamphetamine and around IDR 60.6 million for ecstasy pills.

“This success also saves society from the menace of narcotics abuse. With the evidence obtained, it is estimated that around 150,000 people can be saved from the abuse of crystal methamphetamine and 202 people from the abuse of ecstasy pills,” he said.

The Lampung Regional Police also ensures that case processing is carried out professionally and transparently. For civilian suspects and individual Brimob members, the investigation process is carried out by the Lampung Police Narcotics Research Directorate.

“Meanwhile, the management of individual soldiers in the Indonesian Navy is delegated to the Navy Military Police Detachment according to its authority,” he said.

He also said that coordination with relevant institutions continues to be ensured so that the law enforcement process takes place in accordance with the applicable mechanisms.

“There is no special treatment for the parties involved. The suspects were charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a maximum penalty of death, life imprisonment or a maximum prison term of 20 years,” he said.

The Lampung Regional Police calls on the entire community to continue to play an active role in providing information if they become aware of any drug abuse or illicit trafficking.

“Community synergy is very important to break the chain of drug networks,” Yuni said.

He explained that the timeline of the disclosure occurred on Saturday (27/6), around 12:30 WIB, when officers secured HR in the area. Ban on seaports Bakauheni Port. Examination of his cell phone revealed suspicious drug transactions.

“The investigation then led to HS and HB who were in the line of vehicles heading towards the ferry. From the results of the interrogation, it was discovered that a bag containing narcotics was brought onto the ship by DK,” he said.

Then, Yuni continued, officers immediately initiated a pursuit and were able to secure DK as well as a black backpack containing three packets of crystal methamphetamine and two packets of ecstasy pills.

“All suspects and evidence were then taken into custody at the Lampung Police Narcotics Research Directorate for further legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the management of DK was handed over to Denpom Lanal because he has the status of an active soldier of the Indonesian Navy,” he said.
