Leaving NasDem, young politician Rohil Muhammad Maliki officially joins PSI due to Jokowi factor

LOWER ROKAN – Young politician and businessman from Rokan Hilir (Rohil), Muhammad Maliki, strengthened his political efforts by officially joining the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). The move was taken ahead of the 2029 general election, after he was absent for two years from his former party, NasDem.

This young doctor, who was previously known as an activist cadre of the Riau NasDem and had presented himself several times as a candidate in the legislative elections of the DPR RI, admitted that the decision had been taken after a long process of reflection.

“God willing, after thinking hard for two years after leaving NasDem in 2024, I have now opted for PSI,” Maliki said, Monday (6/7/2026).

Maliki revealed that his decision to join the Kaesang Pangarep-led party was influenced by the move of his three political mentors from the previous NasDem. They are Rusdi Masse Mappasessu (RMS), Ahmad Ali and Sri Sajekti Sudjunadi (Mrs. Janet).

Besides the mentor factor, Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) presence at PSI is the biggest magnet for him and his family.

“My father is a fanatical fan of Jokowi. In this party we are respected and well received. The PSI before and the PSI which has Pak Jokowi now are different,” Maliki added.

With a new range of personalities and an increasingly strong political orientation, Maliki is optimistic for the 2029 elections. He believes that this party will be able to penetrate the top of the national political constellation.

“We are convinced that the PSI will become the four main parties in Parliament,” he stressed.

Maliki’s arrival further extends the list of external politicians who have joined the PSI in Riau province. This step follows in the footsteps of the current chairman of DPW PSI Riau, Kelmi Amri, who was previously a democratic cadre. According to internal reports, it appears that a number of other senior Riau politicians will join the PSI ahead of the 2029 elections.
