Following Jokowi’s Happy Birthday billboard, the mayor of Solo was reported to the prosecutor’s office.
SOLO, KOMPAS.TV – A party calling itself Civil Society Coalition, Solo Mayor Respati Ardi reported to the Surakarta District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) regarding the installation of billboards congratulating the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
The journalist denounced the mayor for alleged abuse of power for putting up billboards in an area that allegedly belongs to the Solo (Pemkot) city government.
Even though the funds used were apparently personal funds, the journalist felt the need to ask the prosecutor’s office to investigate. The report was carried out on Friday (3/7/2026) last week.
The journalist’s representative, Budhi Kuswanto, suspected that there was an element of abuse of power in the installation of the birthday greeting billboard.

“There are allegations, yes, there are allegations of criminal abuse of authority committed by the mayor,” he explained on Monday (6/7/2026).
“When it comes to putting up happy birthday billboards, we all know how many days the dots correspond to,” he added.
His party believes that the installation of the billboards caused controversy in the community. In fact, he said, the mayor admitted his mistake.
“Well, because then the installation of the balio caused controversy in the community. So up until then, the city government and even the mayor himself were saying, ‘Ready to make a mistake,'” he said.
The Surakarta Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the existence of the report and said it was currently under review.
The prosecutor’s office said the report is currently in the administrative review phase and that materials from the report are in the intelligence sector.

Surakarta Intelligence Chief Kejari said his party was waiting for the arrangement of the Kejari Chief before entering the information collection phase.
Previously, the Solo City Government stated that the cost of installing the billboards came from the mayor’s personal funds, while the report mainly focused on the use of billboard points owned by the Solo City Government.
