Regarding Roy Suryo’s request for a second pre-trial, Jokowi’s lawyer gave this message
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – The lawyer of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Yakup Hasibuan, responded regarding Roy Suryo’s proceedings by submitting a second pre-trial application to the South Jakarta District Court (PN).
According to him, Roy’s steps have actually raised a number of questions, including why the determination of the suspect, which had been ongoing since November 2025, is only now being called into question.

“Second, the suspect has been identified since November last year, why is he only being questioned now? Of course, these things become public issues.”

He also advised each party not to take advantage of the legal mechanisms and rights of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). just to buy time for the main trial of the alleged slander and defamation case related to Jokowi’s fake diploma allegations.
“Our message is therefore, as much as possible, not to abuse the forum or the rights that have been granted by the Code of Criminal Procedure to save time, which could result in our clients not benefiting from legal certainty,” he said.
The reason is, Yakup said, that consideration of the main case in court cannot take place until a decision is made on Roy’s pre-trial application. This has implications for case processing time.
“With the new KUHAP, the examination of the main case must first be postponed, so we must first wait until this criminal trial is decided,” he explained.
“So indirectly, of course, this has implications on the processing time of cases, which can immediately move to the main examination of cases like Ms. Tifa’s, but now, in the case of Mas Roy, we have to wait for the trial first.”
Nonetheless, Yakup said the pretrial is Roy Suryo’s right as a suspect in the alleged slander and defamation case related to Jokowi’s fake diploma allegations.
For your information, the second pre-trial application submitted by Roy Suryo to the South Jakarta District Court questioned the legality or otherwise of carrying out forced efforts to identify a suspect.
Judging from the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) of the South Jakarta District Court, the case is registered under number 108/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL.
Defendants in this case: 1) Kapolda Metro Jaya cq Dirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya cq Kasubdit Kamneg cq Investigation Team; 2) DKI Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office cq Aspidum DKI Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office cq South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office cq Public Prosecutors’ Team (JPU).
Roy Suryo had already filed a pre-trial application with the South Jakarta District Court with the classification of the case, whether the forced search was carried out or not.
Concerning the pre-trial, Tuesday (7/7), single judge I Ketut Darpawan decided to partially grant Roy Suryo’s request.
The judge said Polda Metro Jaya’s search, detention and arrest of Roy Suryo were illegal.
