Match schedule released for the men’s domestic season
Western Australia will host a Sheffield Shield match at Perth Stadium this summer for the first time in almost a decade.
The fixture for the 2026-27 season, released today, confirmed WA would host Tasmania in the first four-day match at the venue since 2018 from November 23.
WA played New South Wales in the first Sheffield Shield match at Perth Stadium, less than a month before the first Test match at the venue between Australia and India.
The WA vs Tasmania clash kicks off just over two weeks before the NRMA Insurance West Test between Australia and New Zealand at the same venue.
Both teams were involved in two thrilling finishes last season, with Tasmania winning both encounters by 22 points and three points.
It will also kick off a huge week for WA Cricket, with Perth Scorchers taking on Hobart Hurricanes in the last of four Weber WBBL|12 home games at the WACA Ground on Friday, November 27.
WA will spend the first five weeks of the 2026-2027 season in the comfort of home, playing two Sheffield Shield matches and four One-Day Cup matches at the WACA Ground before embarking on their first interstate trip.
Beau Casson’s first game as full-time Head Coach of the WA Men’s Team will be a day-night one-day cup match against South Australia at the WACA Ground on Friday, September 18.
The team will then take on last season’s number two, Tasmania, at the same location on Sunday, September 20.
As was the case in the Sheffield Shield, the One-Day Cup clashes between WA and Tasmania last season were close encounters, with WA winning the most recent encounter by one wicket at the WACA Ground.
Newly appointed red-ball skipper Aaron Hardie, meanwhile, is set to launch his Sheffield Shield captaincy career against Queensland at the WACA Ground from Thursday, October 8.
WA’s will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s clash between the teams at the WACA Ground, the scene of the hosts’ only win of the season.
Both states meet again at the same venue on Tuesday, October 13 for a one-day cup match, before WA hosts New South Wales the following week for Shield (Monday, October 19) and one-day cup matches (Saturday, October 24).
WA’s final two home games of the Sheffield Shield season will be held at the WACA Ground from February 20 and March 2 against 2025-26 finalists South Australia and Victoria.
In addition to the match at Optus Stadium, all WA away matches will be played at Test Match venues including Adelaide Oval (from October 28), the MCG (November 11), the SCG (December 3), the Gabba (February 8) and Ninja Stadium (March 14).
Casson said the match presented WA with a golden opportunity to build early momentum at home.

WA Cricket General Manager – High Performance Cricket and Elite Teams Kade Harvey said it promised an exciting Men’s Domestic season across two venues.
