Kharge says PM Modi harmed national interests by letting China take over India’s critical industries
Kharge further claimed that 66% of India’s imports of electric vehicle components still come from China.
Nearly 75% of lithium-ion batteries powering India’s electric vehicles are imported, and the vast majority of them are Chinese, he said, adding that India imported nearly 93% of permanent magnets from China in 2025-2026.
“Despite all the Modi government’s empty talk on solar power, it is dismaying that China has supplied over 99 per cent of India’s imports of non-streamed silicon wafers in 2025-2026, an almost total capture of a sector that Modi ji claims to champion under Atmanirbhar Bharat. These non-streamed silicon wafers are the basis of our solar cells,” the Congress leader said.
“Now, the Modi government has even rolled out the red carpet for its ‘friend Jhoola’, easing restrictions to allow four Chinese companies to bid for the Indian government’s power projects. Civil society claims and reports indicate that China continues to encroach into Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh,” Kharge said.
