PM Modi prays for Indo-Indonesian prosperity during Prambanan’s visit
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his visit to Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta on Wednesday to pray at the sacred Hindu site for the prosperity of Indonesia and India.
“In this temple complex, there are sacred statues of Lord Shiva, Durga and Ganesha. For centuries, devotees have worshiped this place with deep faith and devotion,” Prime Minister Modi said in a joint press release with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the temple.
“Today, I have the honor to offer prayers and pay homage at this holy site. This moment is one of the most sacred, memorable and devotion-filled experiences of my life,” he continued.
Prime Minister Modi said visiting Indonesia’s largest Hindu cultural site with President Subianto, whom he considers his good friend, made the occasion more special.
“I prayed that India-Indonesia relations would grow stronger, that people-to-people relations between our two countries would grow closer, that our citizens would always be prosperous, and that India and Indonesia would continue to move forward and prosper,” he remarked.
On the same occasion, Prime Minister Modi also spoke about the collaboration between the two countries to restore the Prambanan temple.
He believed that President Subianto had a clear plan regarding restoration. He is confident that the project will be completed ahead of schedule, before 2029.
Prime Minister Modi then revealed that President Subianto had asked him to return to Indonesia in 2029 for the inauguration of the restored Prambanan Temple. The Indian Prime Minister accepted the invitation with pleasure.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Prambanan Temple is part of his state visit to Indonesia from July 6-8, 2026.
