Islamabad, July 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Committee has decided to hold a nationwide movement from August 5 for the release of party chief Imran Khan and to raise other demands, according to local media reports.

August 5 will mark the end of Imran Khan’s three years of imprisonment.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by PTI Acting Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During the meeting, PTI leaders discussed issues related to the party’s parliamentary affairs, Pakistani daily Dawn reported.

Speaking to Dawn, PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja said the lawmakers had decided to choose August 5 to launch their movement, which will include public meetings, protests and a long march.

He added, “It was also decided that the views of Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas would be sought to finalize the protest plans and other activities.”

Addressing a press conference, Gohar Ali Khan said that the meeting discussed the health of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. He said August 5 would mark the end of Imran Khan’s third year in prison.

He said the courts were not providing justice to Imran Khan and the injustice in the country must end.

Earlier in June, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the Islamabad High Court’s ruling in the ₹190 million Al-Qadir University Project Trust case. In the petition, the couple asked the court to suspend their sentences and release them pending appeal, local media reported Tuesday.

The couple approached the apex court after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected their petitions seeking suspension of their sentences in the ₹190 million corruption case and said their main appeals were already fixed for hearing, another Pakistani daily ‘The News International’ reported.

In the petition filed in the apex court, Imran Khan and his wife said the IHC ignored key points of the case even after admitting the appeal as admissible. The motion argued that denying the request for suspension without conducting a preliminary review of the evidence was legally incorrect and that it is legally permitted to analyze the merits of the case before deciding whether to suspend the sentence.

The petition said the court granted bail and declared the allegations baseless during the trial. He added that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had repeatedly requested adjournments, prolonging the appeal and causing delays in justice.

The petition highlighted the serious health problems faced by Imran Khan and his wife during their detention and mentioned that the PTI founder had developed an eye disease. He claimed that not releasing Imran Khan despite serious health problems amounted to injustice, ‘The News International’ reported.

The petition stated that Imran Khan was facing mental stress due to solitary confinement and termed the manner of his arrest as illegal and irresponsible. The petition asked the Supreme Court to declare the IHC order null and void, suspend the sentence and order the immediate release of Imran Khan and his wife.
