Prime Minister Modi speaks to Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and offers condolences on the death of Father Amir.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and conveyed his sincere condolences on the death of the Emir’s father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The Prime Minister also said that the enduring legacy of the late leader will continue to guide the two countries towards strengthening the strategic partnership.
Father Amir died on July 12 at the age of 74. Following his death, the central government declared a day of national mourning on July 13 as a mark of respect, with the national flag flying at half-mast across the country.
“I spoke with HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar and conveyed my sincere condolences on the passing of HH the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
“He recalled his deep affection for India, his warmth towards the Indian community in Qatar and his unwavering commitment to India-Qatar relations. His enduring legacy will continue to guide our two countries as we strengthen our strategic partnership,” Modi said in an article on ‘X’.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju was sent by the Center to convey condolences on behalf of the government and people of India to the Emir of Qatar on the death of his father.
Rijiju, the Minister of Parliamentary and Minority Affairs, visited Doha on July 14 to offer condolences on behalf of India. Father Amir ruled Qatar for 18 years before abdicating in 2013.
Modi had earlier expressed his condolences, describing Father Amir as “a visionary leader who led Qatar to great levels of development and prosperity” and recalling their meeting during his visit to Qatar in February 2024.
