Pakistan’s cybercrime investigation agency on Saturday summoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister Noreen Niazi, accusing her of spreading “false, offensive and inflammatory” content online to defame the country’s institutions. The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) asked Niazi to appear outside its office in Islamabad on Monday to record his statement, news agency PTI reported.

The summons came after Niazi, in a recent interview, claimed that the military confrontation between India and Pakistan, which took place in May 2025, was the result of collusion between Pakistan’s military leadership and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The military operations were orchestrated to improve the image of the armed forces, she said in the video widely shared on social media.

The notice sent by the investigating agency, addressed to Niazi, said: “It has been established that you have spread false, offensive and inflammatory content on social media in order to defame state institutions and spread false narratives. »

According to an article in the Pakistani daily Express Tribune, the agency also warned that failure to comply with the rules would mean “you have nothing to present or declare in your defense.”

What did Niazi say during the interview?

In the interview, Niazi sought to downplay the Pakistani armed forces’ response to India during the four-day armed conflict in 2025, following the terrorist attack in Baisaran Valley in Kashmir’s Pahalgam region that left 25 people and a local ponywallah dead.

Moreover, without citing adequate evidence, she claimed that India had refrained from further escalating the conflict because Pakistan was moving to recognize Israel.

“What do you think?… India, which is a big country, was not in a position to respond to Pakistan during its attack on May 10?” Niazi said in the interview. “That could have been the case, but India deliberately refrained from giving a firm response due to some understanding.”

She also alleged that the military operations were aimed at facilitating Islamabad’s adherence to the Abraham Accords, the report said.

Pakistan continues not to recognize Israel as a state and avoids any sort of diplomatic relations with the country. Meanwhile, the Abraham Accords refer to a series of agreements brokered by the United States in 2020 to establish diplomatic, economic and security ties between Israel and several Arab countries.

Strong political reaction

Niazi’s remarks triggered a strong reaction from Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari.

“Noreen Niazi’s statement reflects the mindset of her brother Imran Khan. Khan’s family has always seemed uncomfortable with Pakistan’s achievements, and the remarks made against the national interest are deeply regrettable,” the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said on Saturday.

The minister also condemned her comments in support of Prime Minister Modi.
