Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to approach court seeking permission to protest on August 5

Islamabad, July 26 (IANS) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have said they will approach the court seeking permission to hold a protest on August 5 as Lahore Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza is yet to respond to their request to hold a peaceful rally, local media reported on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, PTI Lahore President Mian Akram Usman said the party had requested permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore to hold a peaceful protest; however, they are yet to receive a response, Pakistani daily Dawn reported.

Usman added: “Against this silence, we will go to court and execute our August 5 plan.”

PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja said party founder Imran Khan was held in solitary confinement and not allowed to meet lawyers despite 300 cases.

Akram Raja added, “After the 26th Constitutional Amendment, expecting justice from courts is tantamount to self-deception.”

He said the public movement in Pakistan on August 5 was a call from Imran Khan and his sisters and expressed hope that the people of the country would take to the streets.

Last week, the PTI parliamentary committee decided to organize a nationwide movement from August 5 for the release of party chief Imran Khan and raise other demands, according to local media.

August 5 will mark the end of Imran Khan’s three years of imprisonment.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by PTI Acting Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During the meeting, PTI leaders discussed issues regarding the party’s parliamentary affairs, Dawn reported.

Speaking to Dawn, PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja said the lawmakers had decided to choose August 5 to launch their movement, which will include public meetings, protests and a long march.

He also added, “It was also decided that the views of Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas would be sought to finalize the protest plans and other activities.”

Addressing a press conference, Gohar Ali Khan said that the meeting discussed the health of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

He added that August 5 will mark the end of Imran Khan’s third year in prison.

He said the courts were not providing justice to Imran Khan and injustice in Pakistan must end.
