Sharks gives Kraken seventh loss in a row
SAN JOSE — Scott Reedy and Jonah Gadjovich each scored its first NHL goal and the San Jose Sharks held on to a 3-1 win against the Seattle Kraken at SAP Center on Sunday.
“We found a way,” said San Jose coach Bob Boughner. “I don’t think it was our best performance, but at this time of year, to get two points and find a way, that’s the most important thing.”
James Reimer made 39 saves, and Jasper Weatherby had two assists for the Sharks (24-23-6), who had lost eight of their past nine games (1-4-4), including 3-1 to the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
“These games are too important at this time of year and I understand fatigue,” said Boughner. “We didn’t make it easy on ourselves. We had terrible puck management (to begin with) and I don’t think we played hard enough. We were watching in the first period. But we adapted, and that’s a good thing .”
Morgan Geekie scored, and Philip Grubauer made 21 saves for the Kraken (16-34-5), who have lost seven in a row (0-6-1).
“We didn’t get a reward for our efforts tonight,” said Seattle coach Dave Hakstol. “So those are things you have to deal with and overcome. I thought we kept going; we lost momentum after the second goal against. We didn’t really get it going in the second period.”
Reedy, who was in his sixth NHL game, made it 2-1 at 7:15 of the second period when his shot on a face-off Weatherby win fluttered past Grubauer’s blocker.
“It’s an emotional moment for me, just thinking about everything that’s gone into it and getting to this point,” said Reedy. “Also in this building, in front of all the fans. And my family is watching at home. It’s actually my mother’s birthday, so [it’s a] small birthday present for her. Special moment.”

Gadjovich, who was in his 31st game, pushed the lead to 3-1 at 2:37 PM of the third period when the puck slammed in from his skate. Hakstol challenged the game for an obvious kick, but the call stood up after a video review.
“We did a lot of great things, only unfortunate bounces cost us the game,” Grubauer said. “Sometimes I feel like this is the way the season has gone so far.”
Ryan Dzingel gave San Jose a 1-0 lead at 17:19 of the first period with a wrist shot from the high slot that defeated Grubauer five holes. It was Dzingel’s first goal with the Sharks since he was claimed from waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 21.
Geekie scored nine seconds later to make it 1-1 and converted except for a backhand from below the left circle Nick Bonino pigeon to break his pass attempt. It was Geekie’s first goal since December 11 (21 games).
“It definitely weighs on you,” Geekie said. “I think I’ve kind of established myself by growing my game and becoming a 200-foot player. If I can keep playing on both sides of the court and the opportunities keep coming, I think it’ll keep going like it’s alright.”

Jarnkrok Street appeared to put the Kraken ahead 2-1 at 4:36 of the second period, but Boughner successfully challenged for goalkeeper interference.
“That [calls] can go either way,’ said Reimer. ‘…I knew, of course, that it bothered me whether he came in alone or was pushed. There are so many variables, [but] I was convinced they would call it back, especially when I saw the rerun.”
