Ben Hogan Invitational – Rounds 1&2
FORT WORTH, Texas In a tournament with 13 top-25 teams, the Oregon men’s golf team shot rounds of 284-287 and got it right for 12e at 11-over 571 Monday after the first two rounds of the Ben Hogan Invitational at Colonial Country Club.
How it happened: Greg Solhaug carded rounds of 70-71 to lead the Ducks and tied for 23rd at 1-over 141.
Oregon also had Owen Avrit and Aiden Kraft equal for 42nd at 4-over 144.
No. 13 North Carolina led the stacked field with 10 under, four strokes ahead of No. 3 Stanford with minus-6.
Number 6 Arizona State was third at 3-under, followed by No. 25 Pepperdine (2-under), No. 7 Texas Tech (1-under) and No. 11 Oklahoma State (3-over) to round out the top six.
No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 19 Texas led the next group at 4-over, followed by No. 21 Wake Forest (7-over) and No. 18 Georgia Tech and host TCU tied at 10-over.
The Ducks were ranked No. 17 Georgia at 11-over with No. 10 Florida (12-over), No. 2 Oklahoma (13-over) and USC (23-over) round out the field.
remarkable: Solhaug had his first eagle of the season in the first round. He tied for the tournament leadership in a par-5 score of 3-under. Solhaug was one of three Ducks who played an even par 70 in the opening round along with Krafft and Greyson Leach. Avrit had Oregon’s only 70 in the second round.
