Jackson leads the men's golf quartet at Indian Creek
ELKHOORN, born — Jackson Thompson led four members of the Creighton men's golf team in Stampede at the Creek, which ended Tuesday in Elkhorn. The four men competed as individuals and did not take into account the team rankings.
Thompson finished in 11th place with a total of 223 after rounds of 74, 76 and 73. His 11th-place finish was the best of his collegiate career, beating a tie for 14th at the 2022 Advance Golf Partners Collegiate.
Owen Mackin tied for 30th, posting rounds of 76 with a second-round 77 for a total of 229. The junior has now finished 30th or better in three of four starts this season.
Jake Boor And Cole Davis Not only did they play in the same foursome, but they also achieved the same score in all three rounds, as they finished in 39th place after matching runs of 78, 80 and 76.
Like Creighton, Nebraska entered four individuals but did not consider team competition for the event. One of those Cornhuskers was medalist Davis Johnson (69-72-74), who earned a one-shot victory in the field of 48 golfers. Northern Iowa (293-297-288=878) won the team title with a seven-shot victory over tournament host Omaha (293-299-293=885). The tournament featured six teams, in addition to the participation of Creighton and Nebraska.
The Club of Indian Creek hosted the action, with the Par 72 course measuring a whopping 7,627 yards.
Creighton is back in action Saturday and Sunday at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
