KSHSAA announces new sites for state football and changes for state basketball
WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) – Changes are coming for KSHSAA state title games.
As previously announced, the 2024 State Football Championships would change the locations for each site to accommodate multi-classification title games. This afternoon, the Kansas State High School Activity Association (KSHSAA) released the locations of the championship games in a press release.
Emporia State University
The former host of the Class 6A championship, Emporia State University, will continue to serve as the championship site for Classes 6A, 5A and 4A. Class 6A will see the championship game take place on Friday, November 29 at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 will feature a Class 4As championship at 1 p.m., followed by Class 5A at 7 p.m.
Hutchinson Community College
Hutchinson will also continue its responsibilities of hosting state football championships, as it previously hosted Class 3A. Next year, Class 3A, 2A and 1A will travel to Reno County. The action starts under the lights on Friday evening with the Class 2As championship game starting on November 29 at 6pm. Saturday begins on November 30 at noon with Class 3A, followed by Class 1A at 5 p.m.
Kiowa County High School
Greensburg will now become a new host site for state football. Kiowa County High School is home to the only 8-person artificial turf football field in the state of Kansas. It will host 8-man Division I, 8-man Division II and 6-man state championships. All three matches will take place on Saturday, November 30. 8-man Division II starts at 11am, 6-man Division starts at 3pm and 8-man Division II starts at 7pm.
In the press release, KSHSAA announced not only football changes, but also major changes to the state tournament format in boys and girls basketball.
Beginning in March 2026, state basketball will move from six locations to four. No locations or dates have been released at this time.
In the press release, KSHSAA states that the schedule and other event details, including classification designations for each site and site selection, will be determined and announced following the 2024-2025 basketball season.
