Five Blue Devils selected for Senior Nexus Championship
DURHAM Five members of the Duke hockey team have been selected to participate in the 2024 Senior Nexus Championship presented by Osaka Hockey. Madison beach, Paige Bitting, Kaiya Chepow, Alaina McVeigh And Grace Norair all will travel to the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center for the July 14-16 events.
The event starts with team training on Sunday 14th July and the competitions start on Monday 15th July.
Beach and Chepow are the youngest of the Blue Devils picks and are both entering their freshman seasons at Duke. Chepow, a goaltender, enrolled a semester early to spend spring training with the team and adjust to the college game. Beach is the reigning two-time IFHHSA Illinois Player of the Year. She arrives in Durham having scored 209 career points for Glenbrook North High School.
Bitting, a two-year starter, is back for her junior season, while Norair is in her final season as a Blue Devil with 47 games of experience. McVeigh, Duke's leading scorer from a year ago, looks to build on an excellent first year on the grass. The 2023 ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Year recorded 17 goals and three assists last season while helping the Blue Devils to the ACC Championship title game and the NCAA semifinals.
The Senior NXC is held annually and hosts 144 elite collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. During the spring and early summer, athletes tried and trained at one of seven USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers across the country for a chance to be selected to the Senior NXC. All athletes previously named to the U.S. U-18, U-21 and Development Women's National Teams were also included in the roster.
The Senior NXC is a step in the Olympic Development Pathway program and serves as a selection opportunity for the 2024-25 US U-21 Women's National Team Selection Camps, Junior USWNT Selection Camps, US Women's National Development Squad and US Women's National Team.
The Blue Devils officially open the 2024 campaign on August 30 against William & Mary at 2 p.m.
