The Daily: Jets may trade intriguing prospect; NHL Rumors
University of Michigan ahead Rutger McGroarty, a premium Winnipeg Jets prospect, could be traded before the NHL draft.
Rumors have been swirling since Elliotte Friedman reported that trade talks for the 20-year-old McGroarty have taken place. McGroarty recently announced he was returning to Ann Arbor for his junior season. That led to speculation about possible tensions between the Jets and the player. McGroarty seems more than ready for professional hockey.
The Jets drafted the Nebraska native McGroarty 14th overall in 2022. He's a hard-nosed forward who scored 16 goals and 52 points in 35 games for Michigan last season.
The assumption would be that if the Jets were to trade McGroarty, they would at least want a draft pick in the top half of the first round.

Speaking about Justin Holl's future, Yzerman said Friday: “I'm not sure if we'll go back next year with the same group of Dmen, but Justin was a good player in the NHL and will continue to be. We just didn't get a chance and we had some depth and we didn't have any injuries… I've still had conversations and will continue to have conversations with (Shayne Gostisbehere's) agent. Haven't ruled that out. We'd love to try to figure something out, but to do that we might have Simon and Albert Johansson (next season). We have to make room for those guys and figure out a way to do that. ”
