Which Michigan Football UDFA has the best chance of making the roster?
Michigan had four players sign as undrafted free agents after the 2026 NFL Draft. While that doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed a roster spot, it at least keeps their hopes alive to play at the next level.
Here’s how much chance we think they have of making a selection.
Edge TJ Guy – Baltimore Ravens
Honestly, it seems like TJ Guy has a good shot at making the roster in Baltimore. He is familiar with former Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, who is now the head coach of the Ravens. Guy finished his career with 66 tackles, including 12.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
While those may not be eye-popping stats, he may have been underutilized in a defensive system that felt out of sync for much of last season. Minter is a defensive mastermind who coached Guy at Ann Arbor, so he must think Guy has something that could help the Ravens. It wouldn’t be surprising if Guy worked his way into selection in the fall.
K Dominic Zvada – New York Giants
Although Dominic Zvada never played for Jim Harbaugh, it’s hard to imagine the Harbaugh brothers not noticing Zvada’s abilities over the past two seasons. The Giants did sign Jason Sanders in March, but Zvada has a leg and has shown he can get into the clutch. While he struggled in 2026, Zvada was almost an automatic in Michigan in 2025. It’s not guaranteed he’ll make a roster spot, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he impresses enough to be offered a roster spot.
DL Damon Payne Jr. —Kansas City Chiefs
Before the NFL Draft, the Chiefs focused on the need for that improve their defense line. Although they picked up a defensive lineman in the first round, they still want to add some stability to the position. Damon Payne Jr. played in all 13 of Michigan’s games last year and finished the season with 16 tackles, including two for a loss. Before playing for the Wolverines, Payne played at Alabama, where he recorded 30 tackles, including two tackles for loss and half a sack.
Payne isn’t necessarily the flashiest pick, but it’s clear the Chiefs are still uneasy about what they have on their defensive line. He would really have to make an impact if he wants to make the roster. While it’s not a safe bet, it’s certainly a possibility.
WR Donaven McCulley-Miami Dolphins
Of all the UDFAs, Donaven McCulley may have the hardest time making the roster. The Dolphins are in the midst of a retooling after signing quarterback Malik Willis in March. It’s possible that McCulley can make an impact during camp, as the number of receiving options is quite low in Miami right now, but his lack of effort in his final season at Indiana, along with Michigan’s issues in the passing game in 2025, are not things that work in his favor.
