Senior profile: Max Resnick’s final round with Tufts hockey

While he was completing his Tufts education and earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political science with a minor in entrepreneurshipRgraduate senior Max Resnick sat down with the Daily to talk about how his time with Tufts University Athletics shaped his collegiate career.

“Hockey has shaped who I am, from the day I put on my skates until now. It’spIt has given me so many different opportunities that I never thought I would experience, and it has introduced me to more people than I could have imagined.” Resnick said.

For Resnick, ice hockey is more than just a sport; it has been a blessing and a formative road map through life, shaping the eveningfrom his extroversion to his disciplinee. Resnick said some of the greatest gifts the sport has given him are his emotional intelligence and competence to read a room and be both a leader and a teammate when each is needed. These skills carried over to his time as a captain.

“When you are appointed captain you do indeed have to look after yourself, but in reality you are looking after the thirty other boys at tea.M,” Resnick said. “It doesn’t matter who you are or what kind of day it is. You have to make sure everyone is doing well… and walking onto the rink with a smile [their] face, because in the end that is all that matters. It’s what you’ll remember later, not the games and the goals.”

When asked how his time with the team shaped his collegiate experience, Resnick said: “Tufts hockey means t to mehe world. Without Tufts hockey, I wouldn’t be here.”

He added that joining the team has transformed him as a person.

“Tufts hockey has made me who I am Now I walk in as an 18-year-old and walk out as a 22-year-old, I’m a completely different person [because of the team]” he said.

Outside of hockey, Resnick credited the school with giving helloam his best friends aand be incredible general college experience, largely due to its proximity to Boston. Throughout the conversation, Resnick circled back to his love for the people around himMr. Resnick expressed his deep love and gratitude for his community within and beyond Tufts.

Resnick’s teammates shared similar sentiments about him. In a message to the Daily, fellow graduate John Mulvihill shared that his favorite memories were from his time at Resnicke “hanging out over the years, so many car rides to the rink, debriefings after our games, etc. It’s been a lot of fun watching him develop as a leader and we’ve all had so much fun together over the years.”

Resnick found it difficult to choose his favorite memory at Tufts, but he fondly reminisced about the post-training cooking sessions after a particularly bad timeto soften, Enjoy feelings of satisfaction and pride as you relax burgers and drinks.

“General [my] favorite memories are just hanging out and spending time with the boys. I know it’s cliché, but it’s absolutely true” he said.

For Resnick, that camaraderie has defined the sport for him since he was a little kid. Striving to win on a team that everyone cares about equally, whether they are benchwarmers or starters, was something he said he didn’t do.ee just as much in other sports while growing up. The competitive spirit of hockey simply runs deeper.

If you ask him about a specific moment during a game, Resnick’s thoughts turn to wins.

“My favorite win is probably our play-off win against [Connecticut] College at home in my second year. I think this year, [one that was] for me it was also a bit special when we defeated [State University of New York at] Geneseo, then seventh, in Tampa for a come-from-behind comeback win. That was a really fun competition and it suited me.” Resnick said, being from Tampa himself.

Resnick claimed that the community hockey construct will last a lifetime.

“I keep in touch with the kids I played with when I was five. It is a sport and a family at the same time” said Resnick.

He laughed when asked if he planned to star in one ‘beer league’ in the future, and said he had already started playing wwith a few players and an assistant coach on Wednesday morningS.

“I I know I’ll be involved with the game for the rest of my life, whether that’s coaching my kids or coaching the local high school team,” Resnick said. “I think I definitely want to give back for the rest of my life because of all the memories the game has given me. … It’s the best game in the world.”

As for the near future, Resnick is leaving for Nnew York City to work in financing a private credit shop, where he will be greatly missed by Tufts hockey.
