The Maine Nordiques hockey team will not play during the 2026-2027 season, North American Hockey League director of hockey operations Tyler Giwerowski announced Saturday.
The Nordiques, a Tier II junior team in the NAHL, played six seasons at The Colisee in Lewiston before playing Norwegian Savings Bank Arena in Auburn last winter.
The NAHL is for players 16-20 years old and is sanctioned by USA Hockey.
The program’s L/A Nordiques, a Tier III team in the NA3HL, will also not play.
Giwerowski, who is also the NA3HL deputy commissioner, said in the release announcing the move that all protected players “will be immediately released and can pursue opportunities as free agents.”
Shift Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Nordiques, was unable to reach a lease agreement with The Colisee’s owners, Mill Town Sports and Entertainment, before the 2025-2026 season. Mill Town President Nate Bostic said the reason for this was because Shift Sports had an alarming number of unpaid bills and contracts.
The Nordiques went 32-23-2-2 in NAHL this past season and finished sixth in the East Division.
