The Oregon State-Oregon football rivalry returns in 2028

Oregon‘s favorite college football rivalry is back.

At least soon.

Oregon State University and the University of Oregon announced May 26 that the historic rivalry football game, commonly referred to as the Civil War, will return in the fall of 2028.

The announcement, which flooded social media four future matchups were cemented in the early afternoon of Tuesday.

Oregon State will host Oregon at Reser Stadium in Corvallis on September 16, 2028, and then again on September 11, 2032. Oregon will host Oregon State at Autzen Stadium in Eugene on September 15, 2029, and again on August 30, 2031.

There will be no meetings between the two in 2026 or 2027. It will be the first two-year period without a match since the first rivalry match in 1894.

The rivalry returns after the 2025 extradition was the last officially scheduled meeting. Oregon won that matchup 41-7 in Eugene and many believed it was the nail in the coffin for the historic rivalry.

And with Oregon’s commitment to the Big Ten and Midwestern football and Oregon State’s transition from Pac-12, to independent, to Pac-12, the future of the rivalry was in jeopardy.

But the Beavers and the Ducks showed fans that local competition is still a priority by adding four early-season meetings to the calendar.

Oregon State and Oregon have faced each other 129 times, dating back to 1894; it is the second most played rivalry at the FBS level. According to Oregon football archives, the Ducks have 69 wins to the Beavers 51, and there have been 10 ties.

Oregon has won each of the last three and seven of the last 10.
