Perry added to US Open Wildcard Playoffs
Six wildcard entries for the 2026 US Open (four singles, two doubles) will be awarded through the second-year playoff event. The winners of the four-team men’s and women’s singles play-offs and the four-team men’s and women’s doubles play-offs will earn US Open main draw wildcards for singles and doubles, respectively, while the men’s and women’s singles finalists will earn US Open qualifying wildcards.
The player selections were determined by a committee consisting of USTA staff, college tennis coaches and an ITA representative. This season’s U.S. NCAA singles and doubles champions, along with the finalists, earned automatic eligibility.
The Sophomore Playoff is part of an extensive NCAA-linked wild card pilot program that guarantees at least six US Open wild cards to American collegiate players each year, coinciding with the NCAA DI Individual Championships moving to the fall.
Kim and Forbes will compete in the singles competition. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Carpico and sophomore Nikita Filin automatically qualified for the doubles competition by making the finals of the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship last fall.
Ohio State’s Perry was also added to the women’s singles competition. She finished the season with a 23–6 overall record in helping the Buckeyes to a Big Ten regular season title and a Final Four appearance at the 2026 NCAA Team Championships in Athens, Georgia. Perry finished the year ranked fourth nationally. She earned All-America honors in both singles and doubles.
The Ohio State women’s team finished the year ranked fourth overall after posting a 27–5 record.
Kim was named an All-American in both singles and doubles this season. In singles, he finished 14th in the national rankings with an overall record of 17–12. Together with junior Bryce Nakashimathe duo finished the year with an overall record of 28-7 and a national ranking of No. 43.
The pair earned All-America status in doubles with a quarterfinal appearance at the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championships last fall.
Kim is now a two-time singles All-American (2025 and 2026).
Forbes transferred from Michigan State to Ohio State after the 2025-26 season. He finished with a 20-9 overall record and earned All-America status in singles last fall. Both Kim and Forbes were 2026 First Team All-Big Ten selections.
Filin and Carpico were number 1 in the weekly ITA rankings this season. The pair finished with an overall record of 37-6 with a 22-3 record in doubles. Playing primarily at No. 1 doubles, they compiled a 15-2 record at the top of Ohio State’s doubles lineup. Overall, the pair was 17-3 against nationally ranked opponents in 2025-26.
Ohio State finished 32-5 this season. The team earned its 20e-consecutive Big Ten regular season title and advanced to the program’s 18e appearance in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
