Cricket West Indies welcomes over 350 summer camp students for a fun and engaging day of Test Cricket
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) welcomed more than 350 children and more than 50 counselors from 11 summer camps in Antigua and Barbuda on Friday, July 3, to the opening day of the Second Test between the West Indies and Sri Lanka at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, as part of its ongoing commitment to growing the game and inspiring the next generation of cricketers and fans.
The hundreds of youngsters had the opportunity to experience the excitement, tradition and atmosphere of international Test cricket first-hand, many for the very first time.
On arrival at the stadium, the children and accompanying adults were warmly greeted by the CWI team before being escorted to their designated seating areas, where they enjoyed a full day of world-class cricket while learning about the unique rhythm, strategy and heritage of the game’s longest format.
In addition to the action at the centre, the children were immersed in a range of interactive activities designed to bring them even closer to the sport.
A key attraction was the Cricket Skills Corner, where practice nets allowed young aspiring cricketers to demonstrate their batting and bowling skills under the guidance of local development coaches, who provided practical tips and encouragement throughout the day.

Not surprisingly, the vibrant Kids Zone in the Party Stand was a hit with many students. Here, rides, games and other family-friendly attractions created a fun festival atmosphere, making the stadium experience unforgettable both on and off the field.
The initiative is part of Cricket West Indies’ wider strategy to make international cricket more accessible and attractive to young people across the region. It builds on the expansion of the Kids FREE programme, which now provides all children aged 16 and under with free entry to all West Indies matches in the Caribbean. It also follows recent fan engagement programmes, including the Ladies Free initiative and the continued expansion of family-friendly matchday experiences, all aimed at encouraging more communities to strengthen their connections to and with West Indies cricket.
By introducing children to the excitement of live international cricket in an engaging and interactive environment, CWI hopes to ignite a lifelong passion for the game, whether in future players, officials, volunteers or dedicated supporters.
