Coronavirus outbreak: Lancashire County cricket club president David Hodgkiss dies after contracting COVID-19
London: Lancashire County Cricket Club President David Hodgkiss died after being infected with the dreaded coronavirus.
He was 71 years old.
Although Lancashire did not give the exact reason for his death in its statement, a spokesman for the club told the “Press Association” that Hodgkiss’ death was “linked to the coronavirus”.
“Following the announcement of his family, it is with great sadness that Lancashire Cricket announces the death of its president, David Hodgkiss OBE,” the club said in a statement.
It is with deep sadness that we can announce the passing of our President, David Hodgkiss OBE.
David was loved by all at Lancashire Cricket and will be greatly missed.

According to reports, Hodgkiss also had health problems.
Hodgkiss was a member of the board of directors of Emirates Old Trafford for 22 years, as a member, treasurer and vice-president before becoming president, succeeding Michael Cairns in 2017.
“David has served the club with distinction for many years, including serving as treasurer, vice-president and recently president. He was very much loved by everyone at the Lancashire Cricket Club and respected in the world of cricket” , says the press release.
“Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to his family. A new statement will be issued in due time, but for now, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of the family,” he said. added.
The COVID-19 pandemic has so far killed more than 35,000 people worldwide.
The Chairman of the Cricket Council of England and Wales, Colin Graves, also offered his condolences.
“David was an essential part of cricket in Lancashire and was passionate about the growth and development of the sport in the county,” he said in a statement.
“On behalf of everyone at the England and Wales Cricket Board, our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone at the Lancashire County Cricket Club at this sad time,” he added.
