Winnipeg's annual weekend in-store giveaway has spring and fall dates set, with the first date fast approaching.

This year, in May 1112 and September 1415, people are being asked to drop off items they no longer need and that are still usable to the curb.

The idea behind the weekend is to reduce waste by giving trash a new home and keep things out of landfills. People are welcome to refrain from shopping or pick up items on the high street that are clearly marked as free.

The city also advises people to keep items they don't want to give away to avoid accidentally losing them.

Anything left on the curb must be removed by Sunday dusk of the weekend. The city's Recyclepedia page offers options for where those items can go, including recycling warehouses and local charities.

Examples of gift items:

Books, CDs, DVDs. Furniture, electrical appliances, small appliances. sports equipment and toys. Yard and garden tools and equipment (lawn mowers, snow blowers, rakes, shovels, etc.). Kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. An unwanted gift. Construction materials (nails, paint, wood, etc.). clothing.

Please do not release:
