We got approval, were able to start using the side of the building, and were closed for 15 months.”

For Ridgecrest Mayor Peggy Breeden, it was a triple hit. That terrifying set of earthquakes over the course of three days, then – before the rubble was cleared – was an epidemic – with new cases emerging daily – her personal battle with cancer.

She said, “We’re both going down the path we gave and I’ve had two serious cancer problems that I’ve dealt with, and I’m grateful to be able to say, ‘We’re done! “”

Of the three, Ridgecrest has emerged, with great difficulty and with long standing challenges but he has emerged, and Breeden is his appearance. She declined re-election due to her cancer diagnosis, but once she overcame it, she sought an appointment for a vacant City Council seat and was selected.

The city’s new mayor, Eric Bruen, believes Ridgecrest will emerge from its health crisis, Covid, healthier than ever.
