Live updates as people report an ‘earthquake’ gurgling in Dover

A number of tremors were felt in southern Kent, which have been reported as “probable earthquakes” by residents.

People in Thanet, Dover and Folkestone reported at least three rattlings.

Confused residents turned to social media to find out what was behind this bizarre incident but nothing has been confirmed.

It has been suggested that rumbling is simply associated with upcoming thunderstorms.

A Dover resident said: “It was house shaking.

“I thought it was thunder at first, but then I was in my front garden and it felt like the whole earth was rumbling.”

Volcanologists at volcanodiscovery.com say they have unconfirmed reports of an earthquake “25 kilometers south of Thanet”.

They said, “The status of this earthquake is uncertain, but received user reports and typical seismic site usage patterns indicate that an earthquake has just occurred in this area.

“We expect confirmation from official sources anytime soon,” he added.
