Haitian and Hasidic neighbors in Rockland County help victims of the August 18 deadly Haiti earthquake.

Hasidic community members in the province and beyond are shipping boxes full of food and supplies to Haiti in the wake of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake. The natural disaster killed more than 2,000 people.

“Let’s share what we have come to here and share it with our brothers and sisters in Haiti who are suffering from this earthquake,” says one supporter.

Hasidic and Haitian societies agree that global tragedies happen all the time, but it’s the way people interact that makes a difference – which is why they pledge to help.

Christel Ann Augustin, a Haitian American Nurses Association representative in the Hudson Valley, says working together for a common goal is essential.
