“Mistake”: The US has admitted that 10 civilians have been killed in a drone strike in Kabul

The U.S. military investigation into a deadly drone in Kabul in August found 10 civilians and a driver killed in August and the vehicle taken was probably not an ISIS-K-related threat, General Frank McKenzie, the U.S. Central Command’s chief of staff, told the Pentagon on Friday. McKenzie told reporters that the strike was a “mistake” and apologized. “It was sincerely believed that this strike would avoid an immediate threat to our forces and the airport evacuees, but it was a mistake and I offer my sincere apologies,” he said. McKenzie added that he is “fully responsible for this strike and this disastrous outcome.” The Pentagon confirmed that at least one ISIS activist and three civilians were killed when General Assembly Chairman Mark Milley called a “direct strike” on the compound on August 29. An investigation released Friday found civilians among the dead in the residential area. Prior to the strike, drone operators monitored the yard for 4-5 minutes.
