Chikbalapur: The villagers of Chinthamani Taluk Mitahali and the surrounding hamlets are in a state of panic as they felt and heard a deafening sound from the ground forcing them to flee their homes in fear of an earthquake.

Subsequently, Deputy Commissioner Chikbalapur R Latha, Superintendent of Police JK Mithun Kumar, along with the team of geologists rushed to the village and spoke to the villagers, gathering first-hand information.

Speaking to The New Indian Express Latha, he said that the people of Mitahali and the villagers around them need not panic as it was not an earthquake, rather they can go on with their daily activities.

The deputy commissioner also said that neither the intensity nor the Richter scale was recorded at the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC).

However, a team of geologists has been dispatched to the village, they will campaign in the village for a week to monitor any further sound, and an official communication has been sent to the KSNDMC for specific monitoring.

According to Chandra Shekhar of Mitahali the villagers said for three to four times they noticed huge sound and vibration which led to panic, however, the visit of senior officials to the village brought confidence among the people as he said.

Neelama said the majority of people went out of the house out of fear that something might go wrong, but that there was no crack in the building, no short circuit, or things damaged.
