Second earthquake to hit Scotland in a week

Scotland suffered its second earthquake in less than a week after a 2.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Highlands, causing a ‘big bang’

The British Geological Survey reported a 2.2-magnitude earthquake at 9.29pm.

The organization said Friday’s earthquake was at a depth of 7.5 kilometers and occurred near the Spin Bridge in the Highlands.

A spokesperson from the survey said on Twitter: “A small number of reports have been received by members of the public in the Roybridge area indicating that they sensed this event.”

Friday’s earthquake was the latest earthquake to hit the country at night.

People in the area reported a “big noise” noise.

One nearby resident wrote: “Another earthquake in Roybridge???”

Another said, “I just heard a big bang in Spin, I thought it was in someone’s boxes or something.”

The Mirror reported an earthquake earlier in the week in Lochgilphead, Arglly and Bute, an hour after an earlier tremor was reported on Tuesday morning.

The first earthquake of magnitude 3.3 occurred at 1.44 AM.

Locals compared the noise to an explosion, with one saying it felt “like a freight train”.

Less than an hour later – at 2.42 am – a second tremor of magnitude 1.6 was recorded at a depth of 7 km in the upland village of Roy Bridge.

The British Geological Survey said the first quake was felt by more than 30 people in Ashnamara, Tevalić, Lutschlevid, Tarbert, Ardreich and many other villages and hamlets in the area.

Some residents said they woke up to a “thunderclap”, while others said that “the house and windows shook” and “it was like thunder rumbled,” BGS said.

A 3.1-magnitude earthquake was reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on Tuesday before 2 a.m.

The epicenter was about 11 miles northwest of the town of Lochgilphead, 88 miles northwest of Glasgow.

More than 30 people told the USGS they felt the quake, with reports coming from as far away as Edinburgh and Ballycastle in Northern Ireland.

The agency said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers below the surface of the earth.

Data from the British Geological Survey shows that between 200 and 300 earthquakes are detected in the UK each year, with tremors of between 3.0 and 3.9 on the mainland occurring on average once every three years.
