Michigan house explosion recorded as 3.6 magnitude earthquake

A house explosion was recorded in Genesee County as an uncertain magnitude 3.6 earthquake.

A house exploded in Flint, Michigan on Monday, November 22, 2021. People have felt the explosion for miles. According to VolcanoDiscovery.com, the powerful explosion was recorded as a 3.6-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometers, or approximately 6.22 miles underground.

Flint firefighters were called at about 9:30 p.m. Monday to 3900 Block of Hogarth Street, to report a fire at the structure with potential victims trapped inside. The explosion was followed by a large fire.

The explosion resulted in the death of one person, the loss of fate, and the injury of two others, according to Malaev. In all, three homes were destroyed and approximately 20 additional homes sustained damage from flying debris and the resulting fire.

A number of nearby fire departments and law enforcement agencies remained at the scene through the night. Efforts to locate the last missing person are continuing. There are unconfirmed reports that the child may be the only individual whose fate is unknown at this time.

According to WCRZ, several shelters are being established to house those affected by the blast.

Consumers Energy has suspended natural gas and electricity service for three homes that were destroyed and four surrounding homes that were damaged, according to Energy Consumers. After the area was swept, crews from Consumer Energy said there was no evidence of a gas leak.

The cause of the explosion is still unknown at this time.
